Weekly Photo Challenge: My 2012 in Pictures

2012 has been some year!

Yes, my ill health continues; but on 29th September I finally became able to write about it – giving me a much-needed outlet. The pieces that I wrote Muffled and Sick ‘n’ Tired (An exploration of anger as a healing process) drove MrT (my brother-from-another-mother) to encourage me to start this website to “share” my writing.

In our discussions, he pointed out that we each know people currently suffering from serious and long-term illnesses that have changed their lives beyond recognition. He felt that I was able to express my experience and its impact in ways that many others could not; and that maybe others would read my work and recognise themselves within my words.

This was an element of my writing I had never considered before and the concept was a revelation to me. But the more that I thought about it, the more it made sense: after all, I have spent my volunteering life and employment career acting as an advocate for others – maybe this was another avenue of that?

So MrT emailed me the link to WordPress and thus began my adventures in blogging. To see how I got on, check out Blogging .. and sh!t and Technology … and sh!t.

What I did not know when I started all this, was

  1. just how much I would enjoy the experience;
  2. how it’d highlight just how much work had reduced “sticking and colouring” in my daily life – and how much I missed it; and
  3. how my joy in writing remained as strong as it’s ever been.

But it wasn’t until I wrote Spastic … and sh!t that I truly came to realise what a powerful and empowering tool WordPress.com is for me.

So as I present the year in pictures, it’s no wonder that most of them are related to this website. My ill health leaves me pretty much housebound, so I was only able to attend 3 events this year. They may be few, but they were memorable and wonderful fun all the same.

I hope you have enjoyed this visual stroll through the last 12 months of my life. Thank you for coming to check out the website. And as we move into a new year, I hope that you’ll pop back in from time to time – if only to check that I’m behaving myself.
