The Listening Booth: Week #2

“ He sings the songs that remind him of the good times.”

Hello and Happy Friday to you, dear reader.

Welcome to Week #2 of The Listening Booth.

I’ve been thinking of the easiest methods to employ to ensure that this post happens every week as promised. You’ll be pleased to know that all 520 tracks have now been chosen (I know I am). I’ve listed them alphabetically by artist because this seemed the best means for checking no repeat artists/bands as per criteria for this challenge. Having gone through the list, I’ve noticed that the genres are suitably mixed up enough to upload them in their current running order. So yes, you may get songs from 10 artists with names beginning in “T”, but it’ll be the most interesting list of Ts you’ve ever set eyes on!

In addition, each post will feature a song lyric quiz or a music trivia quiz question to whet your appetite for conversation with other visitors – and to push me into improving my responses. After all, you’ve kindly trekked all the way over here, the least I could do is to not give one-word answers.

Answer to last week’s song lyric quiz:
Title: My Girl
Artist: The Temptations

I thought we’d start with something easy. See how you get on with this week’s song lyric. And now for what you’ve come here for: this week’s tracks.

Title: We Need a Resolution
Artist: Aaliyah
Album: Aaliyah

One to get the party started.

Title: The Name Of The Game
Artist: ABBA
Album: The Album

They just know how to put a pop song together, don’t they?

Title: Concerto For Violin, Oboe & Strings In D Minor, BWV 1060, I. Allegro
Artist: Academy Of St Martin-in-the-Fields
Album: J. S. Bach – Brandenburg Concertos 1-6

Just an uplifting piece of music.

Title: One Song Glory
Artist: Adam Pascal
Album: The Best Of Rent: Highlights From The Original Cast Album

The song that made me pay attention to the musical.

Title: Hiding My Heart
Artist: Adele
Album: 21 [Deluxe Edition]

From the first time I heard this song, it just drew me in. Simple. Beautiful.

Title: Crazy
Artist: Aerosmith
Album: Young Lust

That mouth. That voice. And the fact that they mix blues with hard rock? I’m sold.

Title: My Straight Path
Artist: After…
Album: No Attachments

A little modern progressive rock for you.

Title: Old Time Lovin’
Artist: Al Green
Album: Let’s Stay Together

So many wonderful tracks to choose from, but this one makes me swoon every time.

Title: Hands Clean
Artist: Alanis Morissette
Album: Under Rug Swept

She had me at “Jagged Little Pill” and just kept getting better. This track has seen a lot of action on the record player.

Title: Black Velvet
Artist: Alannah Myles
Album: Alannah Myles

A great sing-a-long and feelgood track. After three now … “Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell”

Now it’s YOUR turn. Aural pleasure or just a load of noise? Share your thoughts on this week’s selection in the Comment Box below.

To add a little spice

  1. Okay, I am so going to listen to your A list (pardon the pun) tomorrow once I have the house to myself and can play at volume. 🙂 Have you checked out my meagre “top tunes” posts? You might have either already heard them or like them if you haven’t. Oh, your song intro? Yep, I know what song it is but don’t want to be a spoiler. The song starts with T and the band with C. 😀

    1. Dang, you’re a quick one! And you’re right.

Just heading over your way now as didn’t pick up on the “top tunes” posts before. I’m so excited, that I’m pausing Earth Wind & Fire for you. 🙂

      1. Hahaha I’m flattered, my love. BTW do you have any tips to ensure that the youtube screen pops up on the post rather than just a hotlink? lol.

      2. I just copy the link of the track I want and then drop it into the right place within my post. WordPress do their magic and everything is a-okay. It’s a special magic and I haven’t inquired into it too deeply lest it stops working.

      3. Haha. I must have enquired too deeply… cause it stopped working. I was so impressed the first time round because HEY PRESTO! It worked! 🙂

  2. Okay! Aaliyah… not something I’d listen to, but I like the violins. I hate those black rappers that go “uhhh uhhh uhhh uhhh” all the time. It’s so annoying! lol. Actually, I’m really enjoying this song!

I’m fussy with my ABBA. I’m not a fan of this one.

I just love the Brandenberg Concertos. I play violin and listening to this makes me want to find some other violinists to make music with 🙂

Black Velvet takes me back! I used to listen to that many years ago now. It’s always been a good one to sing along to when it comes onto the radio. 🙂

I’ll be looking out for your next Listening Booth post!

      1. Hahaha you think YOU are bad at technology! Lol. I wouldn’t even know where to start. And my violin playing is VERY rusty my lovely. xo It could be something to be considered sometime, though. 😀
