“On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?”

Hello and Happy Friday to you, dear reader.

Welcome to Week #13 of The Listening Booth.

Answer to last week’s song lyric quiz:
Title: Common People
Artist: Pulp

Title: Stomp
Artist: The Brothers Johnson
Album: Pure Groove: The Classics

One of those tracks that just makes you want to get up and dance – wherever you happen to be. This track will always be included on any party compilation I put together because it makes me feel so good.

Title: Grapevyne
Artist: Brownstone
Album: From The Bottom Up

The harmonies in this song are a joy to sing along to.

Title: The Way It Is
Artist: Bruce Hornsby
Album: Remember The 80’s

As soon as the piano starts, I’m away and flying with this song. It can brighten any day.

Title: If I Should Fall Behind
Artist: Bruce Springsteen
Album: In Concert: MTV (Un)Plugged

I came to Springsteen kinda late, but I LOVE this track. A lovely sentiment, beautifully expressed and this version is my favourite.

Title: In Mémoriam A Cappella
Artist: Bruno Coulais
Album: Les Choristes

The human voice – unencumbered. This is purely a song of praise. If you haven’t seen the film Les Choristes (The Chorus), you really should treat yourself. While you’re at it, check out “Être et Avoir” (To Be and To Have) also.

Title: The Lazy Song
Artist: Bruno Mars
Album: Doo Wops And Hooligans

A bouncy beat and fun lyrics – how can you not like this? The video is a joy too.

Title: Do I Have To Say The Words
Artist: Bryan Adams
Album: So Far So Good

An uplifting song through and through: it’s the orchestration that does it, I think.

Title: Let’s Stick Together
Artist: Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music
Album: Street Life: 20 Greatest Hits

Catchy and fun.

Title: Chan Chan
Artist: Buena Vista Social Club
Album: Buena Vista Social Club

If you haven’t got this album, get it. End of discussion.

Title: Yellow is the Colour
Artist: Bugge Wesseltoft
Album: Moving

I do like music that paints soundscapes, and this song does just that. Relaxing, intriguing and multi-layered.
