Weekly Photo Challenge: Sea

the sea at Nelson, New Zealand

Immersed in Waves

Come in, my lovely;
And I shall rock thee in my liquid arms.
Though the world treats you roughly,
You’ll find release in my briny charms.

And I shall rock thee in my liquid arms:
Bearing your weight towards and away;
You’ll find release in my briny charms
Where once your burdens held such sway.

Hush, and take a moment to cease:
Though the world treats you roughly,
My voice will bring sweet peace.
Come in, my lovely.

– mightwar: The Sea

I find the sea mesmerising: the colours, the play of light, the sheer scale. But it is the sound – so distinctive, so soothing – that lulls me without fail.

This photo was taken at the beach at Nelson, located at the top of New Zealand’s South Island. The waves called out so invitingly that I waded out up to my knees and tried not to drop the camera as I took the shot from just above the constant motion of the waves.

If you’re ever over this way, make a point of doing one of the many walks and trails that are available (either guided or not). Your heart and your camera will thank you for it.

      And I am very bolstered by your comment as I am currently in the process of setting up a site where my photos can be purchased as prints, cards and downloads.

      1. I like the color, the play of the sun on the waves and the angle. It very much makes me want to be there.

    1. Thank you, Dan. I can’t stop grinning at your comment. It was one of those splendid occasions where the image and the words came together and matched the exhilaration of the moment.
